Montserrat Vilà. Plant ecologist interested in conservation biology
I am a plant ecologist interested in conservation biology.
My research focuses on the ecology of biological invasions, specially in Mediterranean ecosystems including islands. In collaboration with a large international network of ecologists we conduct field experiments, extensive observational field surveys and the analysis of large datasets.
Key topics include:
a) the analysis of landscape, geographic and environmental factors associated to the abundance and distribution of alien plants,
b) the study of biotic factors (i.e. competition, plant-animal interactions) controlling alien plant establishment
c) the ecological and also economic impacts of biological invasions.
